I am having the pleasure of making 16 wooden bases for the Bensen Days awards. I change the species each year and this year it is shagbark hickory...my favorite wood.

This hickory was left over from a hickory stairway I built for Dave & Penny Shaw, who live in Palestine, Il. They own and operate the Flying S Ranch and are building high end parts out of carbon fiber. Some are top secret...but they could talk about making much of the carbon fiber structure for the James Webb space telescope to be launched in 2018. How cool does that get for working on the premier state of the art telescope in the world.

So...when you hold your deservedly awarded trophies...just wanted to let you know a little connection going on with the wood bases you are holding.

Very nice indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are such a generous person Stan.
Most probably don't know this but you never allowed us to pay for even the shipping on these bases.
But than again...I just told them :laughing
Thank you so much!!!!

Gabor- The last coat of finish went on yesterday. I am putting the brown felt pads on the bottoms today and will get them shipped today also.

Could you send me your address again?.....or just have Jeff fly up in the Tangerine to 1C1...

I'm still having a bit of a religious problem with using hickory for award bases.

HICKORY IS FOR BBQ!

It's a GA thing. You might not understand. :noidea
