Oddly though...you can't eat gold.
Historically the reason gold IS "gold" is it never corodes or tarnishes so it adds longevity.
But...ammo is the next currency.
I have always maintained that when the military develops a riflemans weapon to outfit the ground grunt with a weapon that we cannot replicate as civilians its time to start shooting.
The balance of power will be lost, we are close....

Should be able to trade gold for food, If not it can sure be used as bait while one sits quietly waiting with some lead for the fish to bite the shiny object.

Well there was that one guy in a blue sparrow hawk at El Mirage that year...he was a crack head flying a gyro!
Takes a lot to get me physical but he almost did it! decided it would be "fun" to fly against the pattern to make people get out of his way! head on with a sparrowhawk at 100 feet AGL will do it!
Told him at the pilot brief in front of everyone if he tried to pull that shit again I would burn his rig to the ground!

But yeah generally your right.

on a side note I was once asked to fly my rig against a hawk radar missile site to see if they could pick me up, I was outside the tower when they asked if I was coming in or not and told them I am already here....take it for what its worth....

Room temperature/dry ammo shelf life can be measured in decades, and will certainly outlast us.
I've lots of NATO spec from the 1970s, with no misfires.

Buried/cached ammo must be done with perfect technique, else it can become corroded from moisture.

Try food grade 50 gal. barrels with lots of desiccant in the bottom and than layer up as u fill it to the lid and then just before u seal the cap use a shop vac to evacuate most of the air and done. Preferable to have it under cover like a tarp w/ dirt on top for rain shedding. Not saying that's what I'd do. Just to be clear.
